Recently I walked alone through a beautiful wooded area. The birds were calling out likely to a prospective mate. Water rose in spots where beaver seemed to have been building nearby. I spoke to the trees. I asked the trees how they managed to live calmly through storms. I asked how they could survive the sadness of fallen trees … trees that had fallen due to the Emerald Ash Borer or to the strong winds through ice laden branches.
The trees were quiet. They did not jump in exclaiming that they had the answer. They simply remained quiet and calm. Their energy spoke to me of flow and life cycles, of acceptance and meaning, of simply being and enjoying the moment. Their existence spoke to me of networking communities and collaboration, of being true to their nature and helping others. I sighed.
I pondered their wise response with intrigue and more questions. I stood quietly amidst them and looked around. The fallen trees still served a purpose. I admired the essence of trees as eternal gift givers. What we receive from trees is limitless, from firewood to beautiful musical instruments, from furniture to the homes in which they reside and play, from a place of stillness to sharing their wisdom. All that simply by being true to their nature.
